Bill's River Blog

June 24, 2009

Good morning one and all, friends and the one's we have not yet met. This is the morn, the day, the moment of which some think? This... whatever it may be however slight or monumental it is, this is the most important, at this moment. Other than the obvious, Coffee is at the top of my list. which reads something like this.  Coffee, food, gear, flies tied last night. What the weather going to be? Yeah we'll bring the rain gear, and some sun block. Basic stuff, lets head out, we'll get to the shop and whatever we don't have we'll get there. Life simplified, when all you got to do is go fishing. Enjoy it, it ain't always that way. Take advantage of it and when and if you hire a guide. Let them worry about the small stuff.

The fishing up in the North Country, (not to sound like a broken record) is great and only getting better. We've had not so super great weather. Overcast, slight breeze, some sun, cooler temps, some spotty showers, in other words perfect fishing weather. There's been enough warmth to activate te hatches enough overcast to keep the fish happy and not enough rain to muddy up the waters.

It's been wonderful. We've been on the floats and everywhere lately. The floats have been very consistent. Over on the Andro the Alder flies haven't shown themselves yet but today may be the day. The Alders are a water temp dependent hatch, with the low temps and not so nice days the water temps have stayed low, which is good it just means it will fish better longer. The floats on the Conn. Have been delightful, there has been very little traffic on the water other than a few shore anglers the river has been to ourselves. Fishing great with streamers and somewhat predicable BWO's and Caddis dries in the evening. Perfect way to spend the day.

The famed Hexagenia hatch on Back lake has not happened yet. Much for the reason somewhat stated above. A little to cool and water temps low. Again the fishing is still great, it's just that the hatch will be a little late. Although there has been wonderful pond fishing right now. This can be a great way to spend the day. I would suggest fishing a pond either in the a.m. or p.m. and go wade in the opposite time.

Our wading in the Trophy stretch and down below Murphy has been fantastic. The water flows have been a little low this season, especially compared to last. It is still plenty for the trout, but what it does it makes the wading a lot more pleasurable. It's been AWESOME. Be able to nymph and also throw dries both with great success.

I don't get a chance to actually fish that much anymore, I'm always guiding. Which I'm thankful for. But folks I am slightly envious of some of you. To have a stretch of time where all you got to do is go FISHING, that's a wonderful thing. Make it happen!!!!

   PEACE   tight lines,    BILL   >~;"}}'>
