Bill's River Blog May 04, 2009
Welcome back one and all, I hope you all have had a fair winter and have come through it successfully. Things here are starting to spring up and the ice is starting to leave the lakes. All and all we've had a fairly pleasant spring with some absolutely delightful days. Lake Francis is starting to break up and getting darker and darker by the day. While 1st Connecticut lake is starting to break and recede from the shoreline. With more and more open water every moment. As of last week we've been starting to get serious about hitting the rivers and get things moving. With the warm temps and the ice moving the river temps and flows are actually at wonderful levels for this time of year. The temps at Magalloway are creeping into the 40's and at the inlet to Francis is already up to 41. While temps below Murphy dam are at 37+. Last year according to my notes we were really into our fishing with water temps at 42, 43 degrees. This past week we've been catching fish and even a few numbers at that. There are some rainbows moving into the mouth of Lake Francis and also some lakers roaming the inlet of 1st Connecticut lake. This past week has been a delight and a wonderful excuse to get outside with actual positive results. Down below Murphy there has been some quite sizable browns caught recently. The fishing isn't always fast and furious but we've been catching. We cover water well and we can generally find a fishy or two. This past week the stocking trucks have frequenting the area and it shows in fishing the trophy stretch. It looks as if it may be an earlier season than normal so if you all are thinking of coming up for the salmon run keep an eye open for more blogs or you can certainly give us a call here at Lopstick. We are looking forward to another great season with certainly help from you all. Along with our very popular Wade and Drift Boat trips, we are looking to offer a few different type of trips this year. Some are float tube excursions to remote and not so remote ponds. And also to add to the variety I'll also be offering Bass trips, fly fishing for Largemouth, Smallmouth and Pickerel. For those who haven't done these types of trips before it's certainly a wonderful experience and nice to add something different to your arsenal. Looking forward to seeing you all up here this season. PEACE to all and Tight Lines because we'll be fishing these next several days. BILL >~;""}}'>
