Hunting in Northern New Hampshire

Pittsburg NH has more than 170,000 acres of woodland open to the public for hunting and recreating.The terrain is mountainous and rugged with river bottom land. The land is generally well-roaded; a network of logging roads access a variety of terrain offering lots of hunting opportunitues.

Hunting is part of the local culture. Hunting begins in mid-September for bear and deer hunting (bow). October is the opening of the upland bird season. Pittsburg offers excellent grouse and woodcock hunting. NH has a moose hunting season. Permits are drawn at lottery and the hunt occurs over a 10 day period in mid-October. Deer season begins in November. Hunt trophy bucks; often with snow for tracking.
